NEW YORK CITY — A Union County woman has filed a lawsuit claiming she was held captive at an upstate New York hospital for days after seeking treatment for simple flu-like symptoms.

According to the New York Post, Kaitlin Taylor alleges she went to a Syracuse University health center in September 2013 complaining of the ailments, and was quickly whisked away to nearby St. Joseph's Hospital.

Once there, she was brought to meet with a psychologist, and later locked in a psychiatric ward with a handful of other patients, where she was given powerful drugs and remained for days, she claims.

Taylor filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court detailing the alleged treatment, which her lawyer called "unfathomable."

St. Joseph's Hospital declined comment to the Post, and an attorney for Syracuse denied any wrongdoing on the school's part.
